FATMAP - Outdoor Map and Guide App Reviews

.....underwhelming

Sounds like a great idea......seems to me they put the "finished" App out to the public way too early........only handful of resorts available make it useless to 90% of us. Hope to see tremendous expansion and then it might be worth more than a 1 star review.

Completely USELESS as it has only a few maps

You completely forgot to mention that this app is only for very popular ski area, its about 30 maps from the whole world!!! so good luck with finding your nearest ski spot. It doesnt have any search option or at least a map with marked spots, scroll down to find your spot on the list with barely visible names, maybe it works now as there is almost zero places to view

Detailed maps but more maps needed.

The app has met expectations. However, I downloaded it in anticipation of the January resort additions--still waiting.

Great app but...

Love this app, I use it when Im up in mammoth a lot. Resort options still very limited Wished you guys added whitefish, Montana, bear mountain CA, summit CA. Keep up the good work. Cheers

DOES NOT WORK

I have attempted to use this app on two separate occasions and have been disappointed both times. The app simply does not register any of the downhill travel when skiing. I verified that I had the app settings correct including: -enabling background app refresh -enabling GPS access -allowing location services I also carry my iPhone 6s Plus phone in an exterior chest pocket. I even purchased to pro version for my local ski area Crystal Mt. WA. No luck. I have used a different app for years called SkiTracks that works flawlessly so I know that carrying my iPhone in a chest pocket works and that it works at Crystal Mt (and everywhere else Ive skied). I feel ripped off after spending ~$40 for this app. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!

Amazing!

This is the best 3D representation of ski area terrain I have ever seen. The free app alone is mind blowing. The subscription features are a great deal for a lot more information and features. Tracking is great and u can see where your friends are if they have the feature turned on. The track recording is a little buggy but its still a beta feature. Im Sure they will get that dialed in in the near future. Ive used the app in Chamonix and at Crystal Mtn in Washington State and it worked great. Data not needed for the maps once you load them.

looks nice but not enough

This is a really visually appealing app, but it falls short, unfortunately. The interface looks great, and but I have a hard time figuring out why you’d use this app, when it provides no more information than what’s already available on any of the resorts’ websites, or on their own apps. Chamonix has its own app for example, which provides much more useful information about both skiing but also resort practical stuff. Plus, I was hoping fat map would provide detailed information and routes on some of the off-piste or ski touring routes - this is chamonix after all, and it’s kind of a waste of people’s money to go there if they’re just going to ski the not-so-great pistes. But even the off-piste routes that are lift-accessible and widely known in chamonix (e.g. vallée blanche or pas de chèvre are completely absent, which seems like a shame. Basically you have to download the app, and then download the map of each resort, which is huge in size - understandable given the quality of the images, but not understandable given the lack of added value vs other options. So really I fail to see why you’d download this app, since it’s bloated and takes up tons of space. It gives you cool glossy maps, but nothing that you can’t get elsewhere and in a more practical bundle.

Disappointing app

This app told me to ensure I was on a wifi connection because the maps are such high resolution. I think the maps look like they were built from Minecraft blocks. Also, I dont see a lot of information on the maps. The EpicMix app has maps of the Vail resorts that show the names of the runs, names of the lifts, and if the lift is open or closed. I was looking to this app for a more detailed view of the backcountry areas from Outback, but I was disappointed with the content and graphic resolution.

Subscription - nooooo way

Id happily pay a one time fee, but a subscription-based map service you can forget. At some point Google or some other service will offer gradient maps for free for the phone. For now Im happy to look on my desktop and print or save to the phone. For the most part I hate subscription based services, particularly when its an app. Such a waste of money.

Does not work

This app purports to track ski runs while at covered ski resorts. The app does not work. Was advised by a Fatmap representative to report the issue here in order to receive a refund. Apparently this is a known issue. If true this app should be pulled from the App Store until fixed.

Amazing app

This app is amazing. I went to vail for the first time and had no idea where to go. I downloaded the epic mix app and it didnt work and kept crashing. I downloaded fatmap and it worked like a charm. I knew where to go, I knew what runs I was on, the whole 9 yards. The free version is awesome!!
